Tesla is now rolling out the FSD version 12 for legacy Model X and Model S as these were still running version 11 before this new software update popped in.

Tesla has been testing full self-driving version 12 since last December. The scope of this new FSD release was initially limited to Tesla employees. The company later expanded its reach to more users with a wide rollout.

FSD version 12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained with millions of video clips. The new addition enables the company to remove the manual code and rely solely on the computing system.

FSD is now supervised, which means that the FSD can drive your Tesla anywhere. It can take your vehicle to follow the navigation route.

Last month, Tesla upgraded and rolled out supervised FSD for most FSD testers across the U.S. The version comes with numerous improvements over version 11. Among the new changes, driving has been smoothened.

This brought some concerns from Legacy S and X owners. One of these was Anthony Spina, who posted about this on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

“All of us legacy S/X owners still haven’t received v12 yet, with no official communication stating whether or not we ever will.” the user wrote on Mach 30, 2024.

This question was picked up by Rohan Patel, Tesla’s Vice President of Public Policy and Business Development. Patel said old Model S and X account for about 3 percent of the total FSD-eligible vehicles.

These customers “have different hardware, he mentioned while confirming “Tesla AI team is working to validate”. Patel then explained the key issue in releasing the new software for the old Model X and S.

“We have a rigorous safety validation cycle for every software update, we are working as hard as possible to ship the latest builds to customers. We don’t want to give false precision on timing until the validation can be completed.” Patel replied within 24 hours.

Earlier today, posts of the FSD version 12.3.4 surfaced online and this time, it includes Legacy Model X and S. It seems like Tesla has validated the hardware and software synchronization to release version 12 for Legacy Model S and X.

This new update carries version 2024.3.15, you can check the release notes for more information. This could be a staged rollout and may take some time to expand to all eligible FSD subscribers.
