California grants ev.energy $41 million to expand EV charging infrastructure
California Energy Commission (CEC) has announced a grant of $41 million in public funding for ev.energy, an electric vehicle (EV) charging software platform.
The funding comes under the Easy Charging Products With Dynamics Signals (REDWDS) to provide affordable charging for Californians.
It is part of the ChargeWise program to support scaled-managed charging for 275,000 EV drivers across the state.
This program focuses on serving utility and CCA partners in disadvantaged communities who will receive more than $50 million in incentives over the next four years.
The new fund will allow to expansion of managed charging services to Californians and save energy bills, deferred grid upgrades, and accelerate the EV transition.
ev.charging says the first phase of the ChargeWise program with MCE, Silicon Valley Clean Energy, Peninsula Clean Energy, and Southern California Edison for thousands of EV drivers. Phase 2 will expand to 275,000 drivers in late 2024.
“California’s ChargeWise program will create a global blueprint for how public and private partnerships can augment these much-needed solutions and address the inequity of affordable access to EV charging,” said ev.energy CEO and founder, Nick Woolley. “As we move towards an electrified world, it’s critical for underserved communities to have joint participation in the clean energy transition.”
