The platform is one of the four BEV platforms announced at EV Day 2021. This new one is a “Large STLA”, which follows STLA Medium from July last year.

STLA uses different suspension modules and powertrain cradles that can be customized based on specific performance requirements for ride, handling, and comfort.

It brings comfort and performance components including a cabin heating/cooling system, steering, braking assist, and propulsion to minimize energy consumption and extend driving range.

Stellantis revealed that STLA Large is designed and engineered as a native BEV platform with 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures platform.

STLA large integrates motor, power inverter, and gear reduction can be configured for front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive, and all-wheel-drive using the three-in-one electric drive modules (EDMs).

The power inverter uses silicon carbide semiconductor technology to reduce power loss. Propulsion system performance can also be upgraded via over-the-air software updates.

Initially, the platform includes battery pack options with energy ratings between 85 and 118 kilowatt hours (kWh). STLA Large provides an overall range of 800 km/500 miles for sedans and could adopt future energy storage technologies.
