A past report suggests that MediaTek has received orders for Apple iPad Wi-Fi chips and will ship them in 2024 is not true according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

A Chinese media portal published information that the Taiwanese chipmaker is seeing a good chip business and its Wi-Fi 7 product is likely to pick up growth in 2024.

It is also said that MediaTek has received Wi-Fi 7 chip orders from the world’s leading American tablet brand, Intel laptop platform, and major smartphone manufacturers.

Meanwhile, MediaTek hasn’t announced any official details about the orders it received for next-generation Wi-Fi chips.

Wi-Fi 7 offers faster network transmission with more frequency bands. It could ramp up speed up to 4.8 times than Wi-Fi 6 and 13 times than Wi-Fi 5. This new Wi-Fi technology boasts ultra-low latency and ultra-mainstream network transmission.

The analyst mentioned that MediaTek’s current Wi-Fi orders for Apple are mainly for devices with lower Wi-Fi specifications.

These devices primarily use plug-in interfaces such as Apple TV and other related peripherals and will ship in 2025 or the following year.

Earlier this year, input started to emerge that Apple is developing its chip that replaces Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips from Broadcom.

Back in May, Apple announced a multibillion-dollar deal with the chip maker to develop 5G radio frequency components including FBAR filters and wireless connectivity components.

In September, Apple renewed its chip supply contract with Qualcomm, another chip giant for 5G Modem-RF systems for iPhones launching throughout 2024, 2025, and 2026.
