Rivian introduces Also, a new company to build small and lightweight electric vehicles

Today, Rivian has announced Also, Inc, creating a separate company from its micromobility business to build small and lightweight electric vehicles (EVs).
Also, is a result of a stealth program focused on micromobility operated within Rivian for the past several years. This program specifically focused on cost and form effective vehicles while utilizing Rivian’s software, electronics and electric driving systems.
For now, the company has not committed any information about the product type, but the first vehicle is scheduled to launch in early 2026.
It is formed with a $105 million investment from the venture capital fund, Eclipse Ventures, which will also participate in Also’s future growth. Meanwhile, Rivian will retain a minority ownership stake in the new venture and could form collaboration with future products.

“I am extremely excited about the innovations developed by the Also team that will underpin a range of highly compelling micromobility products that will help define new categories” said RJ Scaringe.
This new development comes amid Rivian’s growing efforts to complete R2 assembly and roll the first product out of the Normal, Illinois factory. This new midsize SUV is expected to begin deliveries in the first half of 2026.
