Tesla has confirmed a new upgrade for HW3 (AI3) models with the upcoming FSD v12.5 update, which will improve the city driving experience.

Version 12.5 has appeared as a major improvement for FSD users. However, the company had to maintain the development pace of Hardware 4 and Hardware 3 due to tech differences.

Most of the features are tested on hardware 4 and then posted for AI3. Each time, the company needs to validate these changes for supported models.

The latest improvements for the city suggest that HW3 may not be getting an end-to-end highway any time soon. Instead, they might have to settle for city road improvement for now. However, we’ll have to see this rollout to know more about the new improvements.

This update will bring improved neural networks for better interpreting complex urban driving. It will smoothen and bring confident ride behavior in various city conditions.

It will have an optimized perception of objects, obstacles, and traffic signs for safe driving. On the other hand, the system will be equipped for unusual or unexpected situations including construction zones, unusual traffic patterns, or adverse weather conditions.

Last but not least, AI3 vehicles will also get new improvements in lane changes, turns, stops, and accelerations. We’ll have more information about these new improvements when the software rolls out.
