Waymo now hosting 150K autonomous paid trips a week
Self-driving robotaxi company Waymo has announced its weekly paid trips have increased by over 150K with 1 million miles of autonomous driving.
The latest announcement comes 2 months after the company revealed that it’s hosting more than 100,000 paid rides. That’s a big milestone for the self-driving service provider as continues to expand operations.
Waymo has recently raised $5.6 billion in funding led by parent company Alphabet. The company will use this new investment to expand ride availability in San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
It’s also working on providing ride-hailing in Austin and Atlanta through a partnership with Uber. Furthermore, it is testing its self-driving system in Buffalo, New York, and Washington. However, no availability is confirmed for the time being.
The company has also revealed plans to upgrade the Waymo One autonomous driving technology as it prepares to introduce a 6th-generation vehicle.
Waymo One is now providing over 150,000 paid trips and driving over 1 million fully autonomous miles every week. The future is here, it’s growing, and it’s taking riders safely to their destinations every day. pic.twitter.com/NZYeT72l7u
