FSD 12.5.4.2 releases for Tesla HW3 (AI3) vehicles

Tesla is rolling out Full Self Driving (FSD) version 12.5.4.2 for Hardware 3 (AI3) vehicles with smart and dumb summon improvements. According to the changelog, these changes are part of software build 2024.33.5.

Tesla has reinvented Smart and Dumb Summon around the vision camera system. The first allows you to self-drive the car from a parking space to your location. On the other hand, dumb summons supports simple forward and reverse movements.

These two features initially landed on the hardware 4 (AI4) vehicles but Tesla didn’t wait too long to send them to AI3 models. That was a big difference than previous FSD releases.

Through the past year, the EV maker has been figuring out ways to improve close FSD rollout frequency between AI4 and AI3. The company has achieved great progress but needs to do more work due to hardware differences.

What’s new?

Users in this update can experience public/high-speed road aborts. This means the vehicle will automatically abort summon if you take it on public roads or highways.

Smart summon uses self-driving but doesn’t require a human driver to sit inside and monitor the car’s maneuver. The feature is designed to work in proximity of the user’s location and in places such as parking lots where the user doesn’t need to manually exit the parked space. However, users can enter these roads if they engage FSD and sit in the driver’s seat to monitor the road.

The second improvement is blocked camera aborts. As mentioned above, the new Summon is based on a vision camera system. If something blocks these cameras, the summon won’t work.

FSD 12.5.4.2 also reduces false positive collision mitigation and aborts and optimizes Dumb summon. Furthermore, the company has added custom/Fart competition sounds.

Tesla has also shared two upcoming improvements for the Smart Summon including HomeLink and myQ garage integration and the ability to use the summon without continue pressing the mobile UI controls.
