iOS 18.1 rolling out with partial Apple Intelligence features
Apple is finally rolling out Apple Intelligence for iPhone users with iOS 18.1 software update but you may only experience this new AI suit partially with this first installment.
Generative AI and large language models (LLMs) are the frontier of today’s tech industry. Apple has had its eye set on this segment for a long time and introduced Apple Intelligence to cope with the competition.
This suite of services includes AI writing tools, an AI Image generator, and advanced voice controls. These are actively promoted with Apple Intelligence but iOS 18.1 seeds only one of these along with other improvements.
iOS 18.1 brings:
- Writing Tools – You can use this to rewrite text in different versions, proofread suggest improvements, and summarize features to generate a useful summary of a selected text. These tools are available natively within any text app.
- Siri – The voice assistant now has a new user interface and interactive animations along with the ability to write your query.
- Notifications – iOS 18.1 can summarize notifications to show you the important notifications first and improve focus mode.
- Phone – You can record calls with your iPhone and check their transcription after ending the call.
- Camera – The iPhone 16 series getting new camera control to switch to the front TrueDepth camera and spatial photo and video capture is now available in spatial camera mode for 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
Partial Intelligence
While iOS 18.1 brings some AI features, it lacks other major capabilities, for example, the Image Creation suit including Image Playground, Genmoji, and Magic Wand isn’t part of this software release.
Even though Apple mentioned advanced Siri interactions in the iOS 18.1 changelog but it’s actually not there. You will only experience the new user interface and animations.
Furthermore, ChatGPT integration is missing from this new software update.
Eventually, Apple Intelligence eligible devices will have to wait for the next round of iOS 18 software updates to get other AI features.
