Starship is validating Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12.5 for a soon-to-release date and will bring a number of new improvements for a better driving experience.

Chuck Cook (@chazman) has shared an update on the new FSD build revealing that Tesla employees have access to the newest self-driving software and it’s under validation process.

However, Cook wasn’t sure of the version (referenced as version 12.4.5), but later received a reply from Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, who filed a correction as “12.5”. It means validation is in progress for FSD 12.5 and not 12.4.5.

The EV maker’s chief has not said anything about the release. Since it’s a validation phase, the company might take time to verify all safety procedures before releasing it internally for employees.

The company has recently released the 12.4 series with a vision-based driver monitoring system to delete attention-based warning notifications. This has been a long time coming for the users and brought hands-free driving capability.

However, 12.5 looks promising as it will combine city and highway software stacks into a single stack for improved efficiency. That would also ramp up the development speed and rollout of new features in these two segments.

Furthermore, Tesla has also planned to debut FSD for the Cybertruck electric pickup truck with 12.5. (read more here)
