Tesla finally brings Adaptive Headlights to US and Canada

Tesla finally brought the adaptive headlights feature for electric vehicles (EVs) in the US and Canada. This capability made a debut in Europe and other regions with an Over the Air (OTA) software update released earlier this year.

Adaptive headlights or high beams are a new capability for Teslas which adjusts the headlight visibility when it detects upcoming traffic. This helps to reduce light collision and removes viability barriers at night time.

Underneath, the feature relies on Matrix LED to address individual LEDs in the headlight and disable them on the side lane when a vehicle approaches. It enables all LEDs once the incoming vehicle passes through.

The support for adaptive headlights comes with a 2024.20 over-the-air (OTA) software update. The company announced this release today and has adaptive headlights feature for vehicles with matrix LED.

The feature is now rolling out for the US and Canada with a new curve adapted for the road ahead. It also illuminates more lights to show the driveway visibility.

Partial Release?

Tesla has been seeking regulatory approval to release adaptive headlight features in these two countries since the start of this year. It appears that the company has received a go for this rollout.

One thing is unclear whether this is a full release because the company has not mentioned adaptive headlight features in the changelog. Instead, it only mentioned curve adapt for adaptive headlights.

It might be a sign that the cars in the US may only get access to curve adapt and not the adaptive high beam. Or, it is a full release with both of these capabilities. Let me know about this release in the comment section.
