iPhone 16 Pro to surpass Galaxy S24 with thinnest screen bezel
Apple will introduce the iPhone 16 Pro model with a new screen to surpass Samsung’s Galaxy S24 in display bezel competition says tipster Ice Universe.
“iPhone 16 Pro will reduce bezel, surpassing Galaxy S24 to become the world’s narrowest bezel mobile phone, which seems to be very close to the dream form,” wrote the tipster on social media site X.
This year’s iPhones will come in four variants – standard, Plus, Pro, and Max. These four versions will have different screen sizes compared to the iPhone 15 series.
Here are the rumored screen sizes:
- iPhone 16 – 6.1-inch
- iPhone 16 Plus – 6.7-inch
- iPhone 16 Pro – 6.3-inch
- iPhone 16 Pro Max – 6.9-inch
The 0.2-inch screen expansion is planned only for Pro and Pro Max models. However, the company will retain the previous dimension for standard and Plus variants. On the other hand, Galaxy S24 comes with a 6.2-inch screen, a small screen that enables it to compete directly against the 15 and 15 Pro models.
The company has partnered with South Korean display makers – Samsung and LG Display to manufacture the new panels. Meanwhile, it will continue previous generation technology for the first two models.
A report suggests that Apple will use Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to achieve the thinnest border ratio. It reduces the bezel inside the panel by rolling copper wires at the bottom upward.
So far, the smartphone industry has achieved significant progress in eliminating the screen bezels on the top, left, and right but the bottom remained tricky. However, BRS addresses the chin and aligns it with the other three sides.
Over the past years, Apple has made major changes in screen design including the notch size reduction in iPhone 13 Pro Max. It removed the notch from Pro iPhone 14 models and introduced a dynamic island. Last year, the company made Dynamic Island universal with the iPhone 15 series.
Furthermore, the iPhone maker is developing a camera under-display technology. It is to remove the camera lens inside the screen and provide a full-screen user experience. Apple will release the iPhone 16 series between the third and fourth quarter of the year.
