Kia EV sales in US jump 61% in April 2024, EV9 leads the chart
Kia has published monthly sales statics for April 2024 and its year-over-year (YoY) electric vehicle (EV) sales have improved by 61% in the US. Kia sold 65,754 vehicles over the past month including SUVs accounting for 81% of the mix.
Kia EV9 electric SUV made record-breaking sales with a 144 percent YoY climb. The company introduced this new EV in April last year with a 304-mile range on RWD and 280 miles in AWD drive range.
It has five trims – Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and Light. These come with 99.8 kWh RWD, 99.8 kWh AWD, Land 99.8 kWh AWD, 99.8 kWh AWD, and 76.1 kWh RWD drivetrains respectively. However, its sales started later in 2023. In April 2024, the company sold 1,572 EV9s and the total number of EV9 sales in 2024 reached 5,579.
EV6 on the other hand accounts for 2,051 sales in April compared to 1,241 sales in April 2022 with a 66% year-over-year growth. The total sales of EV6 now account for 6,110 units in 2024 compared to 4,633 sales in the first four months of 2023.
Kia’s Niro also sold 2,031 in April compared to 2,999 vehicles in April 2023. The company accounted for 10,506 in the first four months of 2024 compared to 12,826 in the first four months of 2023.
Coming to other categories, Kia says its three utility vehicles Carnival, Telluride, and Sportage increased by 18%, 5%, and 2% respectively.
