Tesla has officially launched the Full Self Driving (FSD) early access program for its vehicle owners in the US in a new way to get collective user-centric feedback to improve this autonomous technology.

This move follows last week’s app code revelation, which first hinted an early software tests. It is for users who want to get the latest software features before public release.

The Early FSD access program is now available via the Tesla app. Users will see a notification on the main screen to enroll interest in the program.

“Enroll to experience early features before they’re widely released” says the welcome notification.

Once enrolled, the user can submit feedback and related vehicle data to help developers and the Tesla team to improve the next software rollout for public release. To enroll your interest in this program, Tesla will review your historical vehicle data to decide program enrollment eligibility.

You must consent to vehicle data collection including GPS location, external cameras and cabin image data. The enrollment process may take some time due to the user data verification. However, you can leave this program any time from the same settings.

FSD

It is a supervised autonomous driving technology for Tesla vehicles. It can take the driver on public roads, make turns, respond to on-road traffic, react to pedestrians, objects in real-time and more.

Since it’s supervised, the vehicle requires you to pay attention to the car’s movement and be ready to take the wheel in uncertain conditions. The company has plans to launch the unsupervised FSD by this year.

FSD Supervised has a one-time purchase option with the vehicle at $8,000 or separately for $99 per month.
