Tesla resumes FSD trials in China after a brief pause

Tesla has resumed 1 month of FSD trials for customers in China after a brief pause announced earlier this week due to pending regulatory approval.
As confirmed by a user on X, the company has started sending a new software update with new self-driving capability by Friday morning in China.
Full self driving (FSD) is a self-driving technology developed by Tesla for its vehicles. With this, the vehicle can automatically navigate on public road and respond to real-time traffic scenarios such as turns, traffic signals, stop signs, pedestrians and more.
However, it’s not a fully autonomous technology and users must monitor the car’s maneuvers to take the steering wheel in complicated situations.
The FSD rollout in China began late last month after approval from Chinese regulators. This technology is already tested by many Tesla owners, and the company decided to give FSD’s access to more users with complimentary trials.
Earlier this month, Tesla announced FSD trials rollout from March 17, 2025, to April 16, 2025. However, the EV maker needs to complete the regulatory approval for its FSD software featuring Hardware 3 and Hardware 4 vehicles according to the new guideline.

Beijing’s new regulations pose a strict oversight on over-the-air (OTA) software updates for connected vehicles such as FSD.
Within this regulation, automakers must submit details about the OTA software updates rollout that will change the software features of autonomous driving vehicles over time. This new rule strictly implies China’s policy on ensuring public safety from such vehicles that don’t operate with a human driver.
Meanwhile, the Tesla China team has announced that it’s working with the regulators to complete the regulatory process and resume FSD trials.
