Rivian could bring R2 in Launch Green color
Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe said that the EV maker could consider making a Launch Green version of the R2 SUV when it actually becomes available for customers.
RJ’s latest remarks arrived after he shared two images of R2 during e-coat phase. He also flashed back to the point when the company e-coated R1, and mentioned that the greenish color after e-coating led to the introduction of Launch Green color.
For those who are new, e-coating is a short for electrodeposition coating, a wet coating process that uses an electric current to deposit a paint or protective coating onto a metal surface.

This process is often referred to as a hybrid between painting and plating because it is a combination of both. This technology is widely adopted in the automotive industry to paint the car’s body, in this case, it’s Rivian R2. It is a key manufacturing phase to ensure that the vehicle’s frame remains protected against corrosion and environmental damage when the vehicle will roam in the wild.
Talking about the launch green, a signature color first introduced with R1T and R1S electric SUVs, which were produced in 2021.
This color was offered as an exclusive for the Launch Edition of R1 models for first deliveries in late that year. These were delivered to customers with early reservations.
The color became quite popular in the EV industry and helped Rivian to experiment with darker and lighter shades such as Forest Green, Limestone and Rivian Blue.

The EV maker is currently only selling Forest Green with the second Gen R1 series on the configurator. It would be interesting if Rivian does this launch edition thing with the upcoming R2 to repeat this great moment.
Rivian is currently taking $100 reservations for R2 and its deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2026.
