Tesla vehicle engineering chief comments on robotaxi ride sharing launch

Lars Moravy, VP of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla, has confirmed that the company is on its way to launch ride-sharing services in Austin late this summer.
Lars said that the unsupervised FSD will start rolling out for ride-sharing services in late summer after the company rolls out a fleet of vehicles on the road.
Tesla released its plans to launch ride-sharing services at the We Robot event in August last year. It has announced to go fully autonomous with Cybercab, but the vehicle is not coming anytime soon, at least in 2025.
However, the Summer launch time could be met with the existing fleet deployment. These will include the popular Model 3 and Model Y with customizations that will prevent user access for manual override.
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has previously revealed that premium models including Model S, X and Cybertruck will also be available for rides.
On the other hand, these vehicles will feature full self-driving without a human driver monitoring the maneuvers.

Meanwhile, Tesla is preparing to produce the first set of prototype models for Cybercab in Summer 2025 and already started setting up the production lines at Giga Texas.
According to the current timeline, the company is aiming for a mass production in early 2026. Still, that depends on the preparations and the prototype tests for bug fixes, as well as other key parameters.
A later date such as mid-2026 could be suitable if the company really outputs some prototypes in the process.
Tesla has already deployed numerous Cybercab vehicles at its Texas factory, and these are running around to test the autonomous capabilities.
Some of these even spotted with a steering wheel and a driver, suggesting a wider adaptation for the customers.
