Astronaut Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore undocks Dragon to depart from Space Station

NASA astronauts Suni Williams, Butch Wilmore and Crew-9 members have initiated their Earth return sequence after undocking the Dragon spacecraft from the International Space Station.

On March 18 at 12:05 a.m. CT, NASA and SpaceX conducted an undocking lead by Crew-9 commander Nick Hague along with Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov.

After this, the spacecraft will now perform a series of departure burns to move away from the Space Station and reenter Earth’s atmosphere. There it will deploy the parachutes and mark a splashdown in the Ocean. According to NASA, the crew splashdown off the coast of Florida at approximately 5:57 p.m.

The two astronauts have been stranded on the Space Station since June 2024. They’re up there for a short duration trip with Boeing Starliner spacecraft, which occurred with internal issues and extending the trip to nearly 10 months.
