FSD v12.6 brings v13 improvements confirms Tesla AI VP
FSD v12.6 is rolling out for Tesla EVs, bringing new improvements for these vehicles from v13, confirms Ashok Elluswamy, Vice President of AI at Tesla.
FSD or Full Self Driving is a self-driving technology developed by Tesla but its current form is not fully autonomous and requires human supervision.
The FSD v13 takes self-driving technologies to the next level and comes with new improvements over version 12. It has better traffic awareness, more powerful computing for native AI4 inputs, and enhanced neural network architecture.
The v13 uses Tesla’s Cortex AI cluster 5 times for the compute scaling. It brings new features such as unpark, reverse, park, and better collision detection as well as avoidance.
Still, v13 is not staged for the AI3 domain, raising questions about whether these vehicles will also get this major upgrade. The answer to such questions is unknown but the latest reply from Ashok might have some hint on this matter.
“Pulled in a few important improvements from v13 into this 12.6 release for AI3.” wrote Ashok in a post regarding the latest FSD release on social media site X (formerly Twitter).
He also confirmed that this new FSD version is initially available for Model S and X owners and it will be adapted for other models within a week.
This statement has no clarification on the FSD v13 release for HW3 but does indicate that Tesla may have been testing some features that can be implemented in AI3 vehicles.
So, does that mean, Tesla will satisfy AI3 owners with limited V13 access? We’ll have to wait for an official announcement in this regard.
