xAI Grok Standalone App: First look at features and UI
xAI has launched a standalone Grok app for iPhones, enabling users to get this AI chatbot directly on their mobile devices. Grok was initially announced for X (formerly Twitter) users via web, Android, and iOS devices but this new standalone app provides a tailored user experience.
The xAI Grok app is available only in a few countries and an expansion is coming soon, in the meantime, you can check the first look at its features and user interface.
The app has a login screen with a logo and introductory text “Understand the universe”. Below you can check the login options and terms and privacy. You can log in with an X account, your Apple ID, or create a new account.
It also has a Skip button on the top right corner to use it as a guest with limited options.
Features
The home screen is simple and consists of a prompt bar and prompt suggestions. You can tap these preset commands to start a conversation or type in a fresh query.
People who log in with an X account will see source citations including X posts and web results in responses.
The app has a file uploader, you can use this to upload photos and files to Grok for analysis. The bot’s latest features enable you to go through PDFs and break them down for easy explanation.
With the same file button, you can take an image from the phone’s camera for an upload. This feature is useful for live conversation, or visually inspecting an object.

Image Generation
The feature works the same in this app, describe the image and you will see AI-generated content on the screen. The app enables you to see these images in gallery mode, where you can slide left and right to see the different variations.
Furthermore, the app will suggest image mashups to mix prompts with your prompts. You can start a new chat any time from the buttons on the top side or manage your profile (if you are logged in).
Availability
Grok app is available for limited countries including Australia but it will expand to more markets as the developers ensures steady experience.
