Model Q: This might be the affordable Tesla EV

Tesla has been promising an affordable electric vehicle (EV) model for 2025 and it seems we might have a name for this vehicle as “Model Q”.

A report coming from Globalchinaev suggests that Tesla’s recent investor meeting with Deutsche Bank has revealed the plan to launch the Model Q below the $30,000 price.

The company aims to raise competition against BYD and Volkswagen for their Dolphin and ID.3 EVs respectively.

A more detailed version of this report published by Wall Street Journal suggests that the Model Q name might not be the actual identity of the vehicle. Instead, it’s for reference.

Tesla CEO has been hyping a cheap EV model since 2023 but never made it public to date. Earlier this year, Musk scraped the plans to launch such EVs, instead, he proposed more affordable cars rather than cheap ones.

The company is targeting the $30,000 price cap for new buyers to raise sales. These affordable models will be based on the Model 3 and Y and assembled in the existing manufacturing lines.

The shape and size of these models remain unknown but Musk has projected new products for the mass market.

“We are still on track to deliver our affordable models starting in the first half of 2025,” said Musk during the Q3 2024 Earning Call.

Therefore, we’ll have to wait to find out whether the company will name its new affordable EV “Model Q” or not.
