xAI launches Grok AI chatbot’s FREE version for all X users

X users can now access the xAI Grok chatbot for free across the social media platform without even paying any trial subscription fee. This change comes as the company keeps improving the chatbot’s performance and features.

Grok is a generative AI chatbot developed by xAI, a company founded by Elon Musk, and launched last November. Since then, it has been available for Premium and Premium+ paid X membership owners.

The free access has some restrictions including request limits, the Grok 2 model is set for default and there’s no Grok 2 mini. However, free users can still switch between fun and normal modes.

To use Grok open x.com or X app on your iOS or Android device. Select the Grok icon on the navigation bar in the x app or web version.

This will lead you to a dedicated Grok screen, write your questions to get an answer. However, the chatbot can do more than just answering your text queries.

Grok is powered by xAI’s large language model (LLM) and inspired by the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and JARVIS from Iron Man, therefore, its answer can include humor with the fun mode.

It can generate images based on your text description and suggest ideas to remix the prompt for new and interesting results.

You can upload images to get content analysis for codes, memes, diagrams, recipes, directions, or anything else. The chatbot will extract this information and share the summary on the screen. Users can also upload PDFs to get a summary of the large text content in a few paragraphs.

xAI has recently added a feature to expand the search scope in answers with internet sources and link citations to show you more information in each answer.
