X launches custom swipe gestures for reply and like features
X (formerly Twitter) has launched custom swipe gestures for the reply and like features allowing users to engage different features without tapping these buttons.
The mobile app already has swipe gestures for sections, especially to switch between timelines, and tabs, or go back and forth.
However, the latest addition makes the app more interactive and interesting with its customizations.
How it works?
Since the beginning, you can retweet, like, and reply to features below every tweet on Twitter. Following, Elon Musk’s acquisition, Twitter was renamed to X and tweets turned into posts.
The new feature enables you to pace up interactions such as replies and likes. All you need to do is to swipe (from left to right) on any post in your timeline to reply and swipe right to left to like any post.
However, these are the default gestures and you can customize them with different options including the following
- Like
- Reply
- Repost
- Share
- Bookmark
- Not Interesting
Or you can choose “None” to do just nothing while swiping left or right.

How to use
You can use this feature by going into Settings & privacy > Timeline> Post interaction. From here, Enable the swipe gesture and enter customizations for both left and right gestures.
If you haven’t found this setting, try this link on your iPhone, it will directly lead you to the setting.
The new swipe gestures are available for iOS users but the company may be working on an Android version of these capabilities.
Hide Engagements
In addition to gestures, you can hide engagement and numbers on your posts by turning off the display engagement slider.
