Starship 6 Objectives

During Flight 6, SpaceX achieved a major milestone by catching the first stage with the launch tower arms. This catch was achieved in the first attempt and provided important data to polish this maneuver with Flight 6.

The company will keep the fail-safe plan in place in order to reduce any major damage to the launch tower and the launch site. It will deflect the booster to the Ocean if anything goes wrong during descent.

In the meantime, the second stage will continue its sub-orbital flight and restart Raptor engines in a vacuum. During the reentry phase, the ship will have to endure the maximum heat and splash into the Indian Ocean.

With flight 6, the company is aiming to improve the flight’s thermal and heat protection using new-gen tiles and reduce flight damage.

The test time has been shifted from morning to afternoon to observe the second stage reentry to capture visuals that will help to improve the vehicle design for upcoming flights.
