Dumb Apple Intelligence promotion showing in unsupported iPhones

Apple was recently caught doing a dumb promotion of its Apple Intelligence in old iPhones that don’t support this generative AI feature.

The iPhone maker is releasing Apple Intelligence for iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and Pro Max models with iOS 18.1 software update.

Though AI features are limited to these devices, the iOS 18.1 version is available to download for all iOS 18.0-supported models. After the upgrade, they can experience some improvements in user experience.

However, there’s also an addition that old iPhone users have noticed after upgrading to this new software version. To see this move, you will have to enter General and Siri. You will see a “Discover Apple Intelligence” card in Siri’s settings. It might not appear at first but it depends on the internet connection.

When you tap on learn more, the phone will send you to Tips apps, and in some cases, the Tips app will break up and show you nothing. Yes, you can close the pop-up and put things away but seeing such a promotion on iPhone that cannot run new AI features seems quite dumb.

A similar card is also showing on supported devices in Europe and other regions, which makes sense as it will rollout Apple Intelligence outside of the US next year.

At WWDC24, Apple Introduced Apple Intelligence with new generative AI capabilities such as writing tools, priority notifications, generative images, and more. However, none of these can run on old devices due to their low processing power, that’s what Apple said.

The company promoted these features with the iPhone 16 series but iOS 18.1 update only brings a few of them. Even with that, it wants old iPhone users to discover the full Apple Intelligence, which is not even matured for supported devices.

It’s suggesting old iPhone users see Apple Intelligence’s benefits and upgrade to a new device to experience them.
