Tesla Model Y Refresh production target 1Q25, Model 2 late 2025: Analyst

Tesla Model Y refresh and an affordable electric vehicle (EV) will be ready for production in 2025, says Supply Chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo with a few more information.

Kuo mentioned the Tesla Model Y Refresh could start mass production in the first quarter of 2025. Last year, Tesla introduced a refreshed Model 3 with new changes in design and aerodynamics.

The new EV brought slim headlights and changed taillights. It equips an improved interior and installed ambient lights alongside a passenger screen.

Earlier this year, Model 3 Refreshed entered the North American market, which led to Model Y Refresh speculations. However, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk shot down any new Model Y release for this year.

A previous report suggests Model Y could have familiar upgrades but the front headlight is likely to feature a lightbar connecting both front beams. The rear light may bring a lightbar, which could distinguish itself from the existing Model Y and refreshed Model 3.

It’s also confirmed that Tesla is preparing for a trial production this week. The trial production phase will enable the company to ensure quality before mass production.

Affordable Model

Since last year, Tesla’s CEO was teasing a low-cost EV model, that could be manufactured in large volumes. However, reports on this matter claim the company has shelved low-cost models production. Instead, it was focused on Cybercab robotaxi.

At the Q1 earning call, Tesla revealed plans around affordable models. These vehicles will use next-gen and existing platforms and be produced in the same manufacturing line, used to produce current models.

Despite these revelations, Tesla has not revealed the launch date for these affordable models.

The supply chain analyst said the affordable new model, speculated Model 2 may not enter mass production until the second half of 2025. However, the production could be delayed based on manufacturing preparations.
