Ford is replacing NACS charging adapters for F-150 Lighting and Mustang Mach-E users due to issues that may compromise the charging experience.

“As a part of ongoing testing, your adapter has been identified by Ford to have a potential issue that may result in reduced charging speeds over time and in some cases,” wrote Ford in an email sent to a user.

The company recommends these users no longer use these adapters to charge their EV model. As a remedy, the company will replace the defective units for the corresponding users.

Meanwhile, the company suggested users check FordPass or the in-vehicle Public Charging app to explore charging options within the BlueOval charge network.

In May 2023, Ford announced an agreement with Tesla to access the Supercharger network under the North American Charging Standard (NACS). With this announcement, it became the first company and a major brand to start the NACS movement.

Earlier this year, Ford started distributing NACS adapters to F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E vehicle owners. These vehicles come with a native Combined Charging System (CS) port.

The adapter is designed to work as a bridge to transfer the power to the CCS port vehicles. As an initial partner, Ford provided these NACS adapters for free.

However, F-150 Lighting and Mustang Mach-E owners were required to claim their free adapter by registering on the official website. The last date to claim a free adapter was August.

Soon after, the automaker started delivering these adapters to their respective owners. To be mentioned, Ford is selling these adapters for $230 after a free claim period.

Ford confirmed that the charging issue appeared in the initial units but the exact number of defective units was not revealed.

On the other hand, Rivian R1 vehicles have also received free NACS adapters but no replacement emails surfaced from the EV maker at the moment.
