Tesla installed 60,000 Supercharger globally

Tesla has officially installed 60000 Supercharger across the globe, creating a new milestone in the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure industry.

This new figure is achieved with Japan’s first V4 installation in Enshu Miromachi, Shizuoka prefecture. This is also the 600th supercharger post in the country.

To commemorate this achievement, the new Supercharger post in Japan has a special edition postbox for the 600th in Japan and the 60,000th supercharger globally.

The latter mentioned the starting year of Supercharger as 2012 to 2024. In the past 12 years, the company has started the journey from 0 to 60,000. That’s about 5,000 superchargers on average per year.

That’s a big leap forward for the company and it will expand access for more charging infrastructures to EV buyers. This new Supercharger station in Japan can charge up to 12 vehicles simultaneously and will be available all the time.

With this count, Tesla expanded its lead in the EV charger race, enabling users to locate superchargers through mobile apps and navigate to charging posts. Superchargers provide fast charging access up to 200 miles in about 15 minutes. It provides a max 250 kW charging rate.

Users can enter a destination on the car’s touchscreen and the Trip Planner feature will automatically calculate the route with Superchargers. It observes driving style, elevation, outside temperature, traffic, stall availability, and other key factors to provide a better user experience.

NACS

In November 2022, Tesla opened its Supercharger connector and charge port design for other EV makers under the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

Since then, major automakers have partnered with Tesla to adapt its supercharger network for their EVs sold in North America and enhance access to charging stations for their customers.

As of September 2024, Ford and Rivian have already rolled out NACS adapters for their customers and Hyundai, and car companies have announced their plans to adapt NACS by late 2024 and 2025.
