Tesla has unveiled the Cybercab autonomous driving vehicle and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has shown high interest in adapting this robotaxi for future fleets.

Tesla revealed this autonomous robotaxi at the We Robot event on October 10 and it comes with only seats and no steering wheels or paddle. The car will run unsupervised FSD onboard and has a slim design optimized for autonomous services.

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Khosrowshahi said he is willing to add Tesla’s Cybercab into the Uber fleet.

He expressed his thoughts on competing with Tesla and said that Uber wants to partner with the EV maker for autonomous vehicles.

Cybercab is currently a design and it is slated for production in 2026 or 2027. However, production is a real challenge and Cybertruck is a prime example of production delays due to its unique stainless steel outlook.

Unlike Cybertruck, the Robotaxi has a less complicated design and it may not take much time to enter production.

The Uber CEO shared how he sees Cybercab and his company in the future including potential competition with Tesla, buying its Robotaxis, or doing both.

“We’d love to have it on the platform, but if not, I don’t think this is going to be a winner-take-all marketplace. We believe in the spirit of partnership; we’ll see what Tesla does” he said.

Earlier this year, Uber started offering drivers $2,000 incentives to buy Tesla Model 3 and Y to improve the EV adoption rate in the US. These two models are eligible for a $7,500 Federal tax credit, which made the total savings on the Tesla vehicle $9,500.

While promoting Tesla for an EV fleet, the company is keen on working with Cruise and Waymo for autonomous driving services.

However, the ride to autonomous vehicles goes through tough regulatory scrutiny and Tesla will have to clear those along with production hurdles to launch this new Cybercab in the market.
