FSD v13 will bring major leap in self-driving says Tesla AI Chief

Last week, Tesla showcased its biggest advancement in the FSD program at the We Robot event with new AI technologies, which will also come with v13.

The event primarily focused on Cybercab. It is designed with two passenger seats but no steering wheel or paddle. The interior includes a large display to follow the ride instructions and play media or movies.

The vehicle design is a mix of Cybercab and Model 3. However, some tweaks in the front and rear sides make it look different.

At the event, attendees received a chance to ride a Cybercab. The company also conducted similar demo rides with Model Ys with autonomous driving.

Video clips shared online showed passengers taking these rides post-event at Warner Bros Studio. However, Cybercab and Model Ys don’t require a human driver to supervise the autonomous drive, which is mandatory in version 12 and prior.

Tesla can only remove interventions if full autonomy is achieved and robotaxi requires such capability to maneuver on public roads.

Ashok Ellusway, chief of Tesla AI and Autopilot division has revealed some figures about the We Robot event and the AI software used in these demo models.

Elluswamy said the event featured 19 Cybercabs and 29 Model Ys with new autonomous driving capabilities. These conducted more than 1,300 trips and carried 2,000 passengers.

These rides have been conducted for 3.5 hours on the road inside the studio. He said these autonomous driving demonstrations are close to production AI software and will be a part of FSD v13.

In other words, the demo ride self-driving software is capable of running on the street among other cars with fully autonomous sense. On the other hand, it is planning to release it with v13. That’s a major leap from FSD 12 and v13 this self-driving will improve the user experience.

Last month, Tesla announced FSD v13 will launch in October but it’s more likely that this new version will only move to internal testing.

Based on previous rollouts, It may take a month to bring that to public FSD users, probably in November. However, an initial release could be challenging due to hardware compatibility and we’ll have to see whether it supports HW3.
