Tesla has unveiled a Cybercab autonomous driving vehicle and people attending the event got a chance to demo ride this robotaxi for an up-close experience.

YouTuber Marques Brownlee known as MKBHD has published a ride video on his channel AutoFocus while taking a ride of this Tesla robotaxi right after the unveiling event.

The Cybercab has no steering wheel and no paddles. Once it arrives at the destination to pick up the customer, the Cybercab will automatically open the butterfly doors.

This vehicle has two seats, a center console, and two cup holders. It equips a giant screen on the front deck to provide instructions and entertainment to passengers.

One thing to notice is that the Cybercab has plenty of leg room and passengers can sit comfortably on either of the seats. For example, Marques Brownlee is quite tall and has long legs but he stretched them to the front due to the long footrest and space underneath the front deck.

Once inside, the Cybercab starts instructing such as buckling up the seat belt and waiting for the doors to close automatically.

It then lets the passenger choose a destination from a 3D map of the demo drive area and shows the ETA time and the place details. The UI will also show a journey progress bar on top of the display.

After selecting “Start”, the car will start driving and take the passenger to the destination.

The car performed well through corners, responded to stop signs, stopped for incoming traffic, and took an alternative route when the road was blocked. Meanwhile, passengers can also play media on the car.

On their way to the destination, passengers can stop the ride at any time.

Once reached, the car will park, enable the on-screen button to open the door, and let the passenger step out. It appears that Tesla has customized a limited area driving experience for demo rides and we are yet to see full-fledged capabilities.
