SpaceX and NASA are ready to launch the Crew-9 human spaceflight mission with a Falcon 9 rocket on September 28 from Florida.

The launch window will open at 1:17 p.m. ET and could also attempt a next-day liftoff at 12:54 p.m. ET if needed. The rocket and the Dragon spacecraft are steady at Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

This will be the ninth crew rotation mission with SpaceX under NASA’s commercial crew program. This will be the first human spaceflight to launch from this pad with NASA astronauts Nick Hague, command, and Roscomos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, mission specialist in a five-month journey.

The crew will conduct research, experiments, spacewalk, and perform maintenance activities during their spaceflight to the International Space Station.

After separation from the second stage, the first stage will return to Earth, which previously supported Crew-4, Ax-2, and Ax-3 flights. It will land on Landing Zone 1 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

Meanwhile, the second stage will lead the mission to orbit and deploy the Dragon to the space station’s trajectory.

Return

The Crew-9 is expected to return in February 2025 with two additional astronauts Butch Wilmore and SuniWilliams, who arrived at the space station in June with a Boeing Starliner flight.

However, due to some issues in the spacecraft, the pod returned without its crew. Therefore, NASA decided to bring these two stranded astronauts with Crew-9.
