Kia announces Tesla NACS support for EV9 and EV6 models

Kia America has announced Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) support for EV6 and EV9, two of its most popular electric vehicles (EVs).

NACS will come with new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or 2024 EV6 model customers who will take delivery starting September 4, 2024.

This new addition will expand the EV charging network for Kia cars and allow them to access more than 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the U.S.

Earlier this month, Hyundai also announced the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 with a native NACS port. This model will be available starting this fall.

The company will open NACS access to these cars starting January 15, 2025. It will ship a free NACS adapter for these models in the US in early 2025.

On the other hand, models delivered September 4, 2024, will have to purchase the NACS adapter from a Kia dealer somewhere near or after the free adapter rollout.

The company will release three types of adapters NACS to CCS1, CCS1 to NACS, and J1772 to NACS. NACS to CCS1 will allow existing Kia EVs to DC fast charge.

The CCS1 coupler to the NACS port allows NACS-equipped Kia EVs to charge on existing CCS DC chargers. Meanwhile, the J1772 to NACS adapter allows NACS-equipped Kia EVs to AC-charge on existing Level 2 chargers.

The EV maker has planned to release an upgrade to its Kia Access app, this will enable the 2025 Kia EV owners to search, locate, and navigate through available charging points.
