Apple is shipping iPhone 16 series pre-orders and YouTuber MKBHD has posted unboxing and first impressions of these new iPhones.

iPhone 16 and 16 Plus boxes highlight the rear side and include a device and a USB C cable. For the first time, it doesn’t come with Apple stickers. So, that’s the end of an era. Aside from these, there are no other changes to reflect on the design side compared to the previous generation.

Pros

The Pro version shows the display side on the retail box. That’s due to the new 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes for the Pro and Pro Max respectively. This is an upgrade from the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens used in 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max released last year.

The overall width and height of these models are also increased and it’s certain when you compare them with their predecessors. The new iPhones also equip a new A18 series chipset and the Geekbench score for these devices shows substantial performance upgrades in single and multi-core benchmarks as well as GPU.

Apple Intelligence

The first impressions video also noted Apple Intelligence, the highlight of the iPhone 16 series conference this year. Marques clarified that these devices run iOS 18 out of the box and there is no such intelligence in these devices.

Instead, Apple announced that these new AI features will be released with an over-the-air (OTA) software update starting in October.

Camera Controls

All four models come with a new dedicated button called “Camera Controls”, used to tweak settings parameters.
