GM launches Tesla NACS support for its EVs

General Motors (GM) has launched Tesla supercharger support for its electric vehicles (EVs) using GM-approved NACS DC adapter.

GM has become the third company to enable North American Charging Standard support for its EV models. Earlier this year, Ford became the first company to support NACS onboard for F150-Lighting and Mustang Mach-E.

Rivian followed this trend by launching NACS support for its R1S and R1T vehicles.

In June last year, GM and Tesla announced cooperation for a unified charging standard with NACS integration. Aside from existing vehicles, new GM EVs will bring NACS natively onboard.

After this addition, GM vehicles will have access to more than 231,800 public Level 2 and DC fast chargers in North America. The adapters will rollout to customers in the US, followed by Canada later this year.

GM customers will have to buy a NACS adapter at $225 USD. On the other hand, Rivian and Ford customers are getting these adapters free of charge for an extended launch time.

However, these will also charge an identical amount for these adapters once the free claim tier expires. Owners can order the adapter through GM vehicle brand mobile apps.

Customers can locate these superchargers in the GM mobile app along with station status, initiate a charge, and pay for a charging session.

The automaker said it is working on fulfilling the adapter supplies for customers and it will partner with multiple suppliers to produce NACS DC adapters.

It is also mentioned that these adapters are designed to provide compatibility with GM EVs at Tesla Superchargers.
