OpenAI launches 01 models dedicated to science, coding and math
OpenAI has announced 01, a new series of AI models designed to solve complex tasks and hard problems specifically for science, coding, and math.
For example, OpenAI 01 can be used by healthcare researchers to annotate cell sequencing data and by physicists to generate complicated mathematical formulas needed for quantum optics. It can also be utilized by developers to build and execute multi-step workflows.
Along with this announcement, the company has released the first preview for ChatGPT and OpenAI API users. The preview is subject to change and receive improvements based on early user feedback.
The new model has been trained to think through problems before they respond similar to a human. In benchmark, the 01 model performs similarly to PhD students on challenging benchmark tasks in physics, chemistry, and biology.
OpenAI also noted that the performance in math and coding has exceeded any other model. GPT-4o solved 13% of problems at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and the reasoning model scored 83%.
This model lacks features such as web browsing for information and uploading files and images for analysis. However, 01 brings advancement in complex reasoning for powerful AI processing.
In addition to 01, OpenAI has also launched 01-mini, a fast, cheaper option in the 01 series for coding tasks. It is 80 percent cheaper than 01-preview and a cost-effective model for applications that require reasoning, not vast knowledge.
OpenAI 01-preview and 01 mini are available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users. You can start using them from today and you can pick any of them from the model pick at the launch.
It has a weekly rate limit of 30 messages for 01-preview and 50 for 01-mini. The AI company has said it is working on improvements that will increase the rates.
Both models will be available for ChatGPT Enterprise and Education users starting next week. Meanwhile, OpenAI 01 model API will be available for qualifying developers today with a rate limit of 20 RPM.
In the future, 01-mini could be launched for free ChatGPT users.
