Lucid announces new Atlas drive unit for midsize EVs

Premium EV maker Lucid has announced Atlas, a new drive unit for upcoming midsize platform vehicles launching in the years to come.

The company has written that the next-gen drive unit is under development and testing. This unit will help to improve the driving experience and focus on efficiency according to Lucid.

The current electric drive unit is designed for flagship vehicles including Lucid Air and Gravity. It aims to provide power density and cost per horsepower.

However, the miniaturized version will help achieve more cabin space and a longer range with less battery capacity.

Lucid plans to launch a new midsize vehicle in 2026 and it will start under $50,000. It will be the lowest price point for the EV model and allow the company to enter the mass market.
