Apple will release the iPhone 16 series on Monday and is expected to use the new ARM V9 design for generative AI features.

FT reports Apple is taking this move to advance new AI capabilities in smart devices. It will unveil a new A18 chipset alongside the iPhone 16 series with V9 architecture.

Launched in March 2021, Arm V9 brings better support for developers with new tools to program and improve the design for new AI applications. It provides fast computing in high-performance use cases alongside security measures to secure data and the operated device or server.

Compared to V8, the new Arm architecture has better processing ability for large datasets, required for edge computing.

Apple’s latest M4 series chipset has this architecture in action and improved performance with a more powerful neural engine. The new chipset includes 28 billion transistors and is processed using 3nm technology.

The company is expected to bring a new lineup of MacBooks, iMac, and Mac Mini through late 2024 and early 2025. These new devices will use high-end M4 chipsets compared to the standard version revealed in May this year.

The latest adoption is related to Apple Intelligence, a suite of generative AI features and large language models. With this move, the Cupertino California-based tech company wants to reinvent its device portfolio and improve user experience.

Apple Intelligence has features such as a smarter Siri voice assistant with a new UI and a part of the latest iOS version.

The A17 Pro chipset used the V8 architecture with iPhone 15 Pro Models. It allowed the company to advance these two iPhones with top-notch features.

Due to the reason that the new AI suite requires more AI performance, Apple could only install them to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max among previously launched models. Therefore, the upcoming iPhone 16 series will be using Arm V9 architecture to run them out of the box.
