Bloomberg reports that Apple has allowed a new app update for iOS this week. This version has Instagram-like features for live streaming.

It was rumored that Apple and WeChat failed to agree on the App Store charge for new features. It might lead to the app’s outcast from the distribution platform from iPhone 16 series launching this month.

The heart of the title lies in payment, which Apple insists should be done via its mechanism and not external links.

The iPhone maker has asked Tencent to block links to external payment services within min-games offered by the WeChat app. These in-app games are popular in the country and developers have begun to monetize them by selling in-game items.

These developers have found new ways to bypass Apple’s payment protocol. Such practices are being adopted by other developers to save 30% cut.

Apple asked the Chinese tech company to stop developers from using iOS messaging apps to redirect gamers to other payment portals.

With this process, developers can avoid paying Apple its 30% app store transaction charge. Therefore, the Cupertino-based company has asked Tencent to disable in-game messaging but the Chinese firm denied it.

But Tencent wants to negotiate on this matter and talks for the next move are still under development. It can comprise its share of the payment process with new updates.

Specifically, it can strike a revenue-sharing deal with Apple to allow it to accept payments in mini-games via Apple’s payment gateway.

Apple has been scrutinized for such practices around the globe. Earlier this year, the European Union ordered the company to open its payment system to include external payment options.
