Tesla has released software update version 2024.27.30 with new FSD 12.5.3 for users. The first wave of Tesla owners is getting the much-awaited Actually Smart Summon feature with this new software upgrade.

This feature allows you to move your Tesla to you or a place where you want. The feature is helpful when you need to retrieve your car while carrying packages or something else.

In addition to the smart summon, you can continue to move a car back and forth with simple controls such as getting it in or out of the garage. You will have full control over the car’s movement and can cancel the summon anytime from the mobile app.

Years in the Making

In 2021, Tesla started transitioning into a camera-based vision system, replacing radar for Model 3, Y, S, and X.

In the following year, the EV maker replaced ultrasonic sensors (USS) with a vision-based occupancy network. This approach affected features provided with FSD and non-FSD cars. That includes Autopark, Summon, and Smart Summon features.

Despite using the vision-based system, the company was still developing technologies to achieve parity with radar and USS. However, it was announced that the feature will be resumed once the parity is established.

Earlier this year, Tesla started testing the new summon feature, which appeared through its mobile app code.

In March, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk posted for the first time about Summon and Autopark. However, the Tesla chief said these functionalities will be released in April.

Although, the company released autopark for cars but summon remained absent. In July, Musk shared an update and explained that this feature is being developed separately and will be bundled with the FSD 12.5 build in August.

It’s not August but the first week of September got the honors to host Actually Smart Summon. Tesla customers with FSD 12.5.3 need to update their mobile app to 4.36.6 or later to access this feature.
