Tesla recalling 870 Model X in China with roof panels issue
Tesla has announced a recall for 870 imported Model X electric vehicles (EVs) in China due to insufficient primer on the surface of the panels.
Tesla has filed a recall plan with Chinese regulators to fix a total of 870 vehicles produced between March 16, 2016 and July 31, 2016.
This new recall is a re-recall of some imported Model X electric vehicles issued on November 27, 2020.
The front and middle roof panels are installed to the top of the vehicle using adhesive and a primer is needed to increase the adhesion between the two.
Due to insufficient primer on the surface of the panels, the panel adhesive may weaken over time, and the panel could fall off the vehicle and endanger the passenger and other vehicles.
The EV maker will provide a remedy for such defects and repair the recalled vehicles with free-of-charge service for the primer.
The company will first test the roof trim and if the test fails, it will replace and reinstall it with primer to fix the problem.
Tesla will contact all relevant Model X owners in the country and inform them about the recall procedure.
In terms of production, the EV giant mass-produces Model 3 and Model Y in China but imports Model X and S due to their descent demand.
