FSD 12.5 rollout for HW3 goes wide including Canada
Tesla started a wide FSD 12.5 rollout for HW3 cars in the US and Canada. That shows old hardware owners now have access to this FSD version.
FSD 12.5 is the most advanced FSD branch and has new improvements to the driving experience compared to prior releases.
The company recently revamped its driver attention monitoring system with the cabin’s camera. It has removed attention warnings and enabled a hands-free experience.
These improvements remained limited to HW4 (AI4) users, while HW3 kept using FSD 12.3.6. However, the conversation soon picked up pace and the words reached officially to Tesla CEO, Elon Musk.
Late last month, Musk announced that the team is working on HW3 compatibility and could be released in August. He explained that the team is validating the compatibility with older cars to deliver optimum performance.
On August 20, a new firmware version 2024.26.15 with FSD 12.5.1.4 detected. It was later confirmed that the version has HW3 support for employees.
Within a few days, the company released 2024.26.20 with FSD v12.5.1.5 for public users. This was the initial rollout with HW3 capability for previous hardware. Since then, it has been pushing new waves of FSD 12.5.1.5 for HW3 cars with FSD 12.5 support.
Will be away for the majority of today due to a bad headache, but hope many were included and happy that it was in fact not paused as we suspected. 👍

In the past week, we’ve seen similar rollout and expansion in Canada, which is a good sign for all FSD users from past generations.

Parity
Tesla is developing AI4 FSD versions with advanced hardware capabilities but maintaining the AI3 code separately. Therefore, a separate development is taking time for validation and then rollout.
In the future, we might see these FSD updates rollout simultaneously for both hardware. Meanwhile, Tesla still has major changes pending for users and they might start dropping by September.
