Tesla has become the first automaker to integrate DIMO into its vehicles to enable users to connect any car to a decentralized network, control their data, and earn rewards. This could only be possible after Tesla opened its APIs for third-party car platforms.

This integration is deep within the Tesla mobile app or infotainment system. Interstingly, users will earn rewards by keeping their cars connected to the network.

Using the Dimo app could bring several benefits including permission control, and traditional command access such as opening doors, unlocking the trunk, and more. Also, it will offer advanced widgets for the car’s health tracking.

DIMO has more than 109,000 connected cars including 20,000 Tesla and the new collaboration will further strengthen these numbers. New users can download the Dimo app to their iPhone or Android devices from the App Store and Play Store respectively.

Teslas connected to this service can upgrade by opening the Dimo app and reestablishing your connection by selecting Tesla in the Garage tab. You will see on-screen instructions to reconnect the car but a Tesla account sign-in is required to complete the process.

As a final step, you will need to approve a virtual key. To do so, you will need to open the Dimo app and it will redirect you to the Tesla page. You can now approve the virtual key by pressing Finish the setup.

Once finished, you can reconnect your Tesla, which could take up to 24 hours. You should know that the upgrade must be completed before October 31 to claim rewards.

Afterwards, Teslas without Dimo upgrade will lose their connection to the service network and won’t be eligible for weekly baseline awards.
