Tesla FSD 12.5 HW4 vs HW3 Comparison

Tesla is rolling out Full Self-Driving (FSD) 12.5 for HW3 cars and now, there’s a comparison available with HW4 (AI4) for customers who are looking forward to getting this new upgrade.

X user @BLKMDL3 has shared the latest insights on HW3 and Hw4 as well as the difference in driving experience. The two models used in this comparison are using the following version:

• 2019 Model 3 (v12.5.1.5 2024.26.20)
• 2024 Model 3 (v12.5.1.3 2024.26.10)

“Overall, both were good. Some more hesitation with HW3, especially when it came to left turns. Some shaky steering wheel, slower decision-making, and speed control.

HW4 and HW3 both missed the same speed bump, but both slowed for the first set (HW4 slowed more, which is good). HW3 has been doing excellent for full-length speed bumps for me but now struggling with these partial blocks + ignoring dips.

Noticed HW4 was quicker with speed on AutoMax, HW3 has been somewhat slow for me (5ish under the speed limit) and AI4 had extremely quick decision-making.
HW3 was stopping/slowing well before the limit line (HW4 was as well but not as much)

In some residential streets, AI4 was going a little too quickly whereas HW3 was doing it almost perfectly. On main city streets HW3 goes too slow and leaves a large gap between cars and AI4 is a little quicker.

They’re similar but you can feel a difference between the two computers, HW3 is not as quick and smooth. AI4 is incredibly smooth.

These are real-world tests, so some variables but we repeated the tests back to back with all similar results. These are just our unedited + honest impressions as usual. We are both long-term owners, fans, shareholders, and multiple-time FSD purchasers in full.”
