Apple laying off 100 employees from its services division

Apple is laying off around 100 employees from its service division and this decision is related to a shift in strategy reports Bloomberg. These employees were part of Apple Services and headed by Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Services.

Cue covers a range of services including Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Podcasts, the Apple TV app, and Apple TV+, as well as Apple Pay, Apple Card, Maps, Search Ads, Apple’s iCloud services, and Apple’s productivity and creativity apps.

Gurman notes that the new cut will impact these services but reflects a shift in Apple’s priorities. Earlier this year, the company shut down a project for a team of 121 employees in San Diego.

Apple told employees to relocate or get terminated in April. These employees were responsible for a project related to Siri to improve the voice assistant by listening to queries.

Last year, Apple reported record revenue from services at around $85.78 billion, a 5 percent increase from a year earlier.

The layoffs also come amid the upcoming iPhone 16 series launch event, where it will announce new services for iPhone and other devices. Furthermore, it will make iOS 18 and other software available for all users.
