Lucid has published a video showing the upcoming midsize Gravity SUV conducting crash and collision tests to ensure passenger safety and the highest durability on the road. Watch Lucid Gravity conducting crash tests.

A 2-minute clip walks through different aspects of this test designed by Lucid engineers and vehicle specialists. It shows the simulation of these crashes and collisions with other vehicles and objects.

Then it moves to the real collision tests including front, side, and rear collisions of different magnitudes. The impact drives the vehicle away and creates damage as much as possible to test the peak effect.

The vehicle has passed the confirmation stage to ensure sub-systems work together to form this SUV. Then the engineers record the crash tests and evaluate those data using different technologies including high-speed cameras, motion tracking sensors, accelerometer data, and more.

If the result is satisfying, the output is repeated on a new test vehicle and compared to the old one.

The Lucid test team has also designed new crash rails specially to absorb energy. Once in contact with the collision, these rails collapse and cross folds to disburse the energy through a distance rather than an instant impact.

In case the vehicle doesn’t collide through these new rails and goes on the corners. The car will eject the wheels on the side to glance off the vehicle in the front direction. However, it will remain attached to any impact on those rails.

Lucid is preparing to mass-produce Gravity later this year and the company comes with a housing space for up to 7 people.

It can project up to 440 miles of range with fast charging. It can output up to 800 hp and take 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The company will launch this SUV later this year.
