iOS 18 Beta 5 is OTA update available for download

Apple is rolling out iOS 18 public beta 5 for testers who opted to join the public test campaign of this major software version. The latest public build for iOS 18 comes a week after beta 4 and indicates that we’re near the stable release.

Yesterday, the company also rolled out iOS 18 developer beta 7, which is expected to be the final build prior to a release candidate.

Unlike developer beta, the public test pool enables iPhone users to dive into the latest features without being developers. There might be some features that may not be identical to the developer’s software environment. However, it will give you a good grasp of what the company has planned to bring as a major update.

Apple released iOS 18 at WWDC24 conference and the software has made numerous improvements to the design and the appearance of the entire home screen.

For example, you can now change the icon color and make it compatible with dark mode. Or you can increase the size and zoom in to increase visibility. The company has also paid close attention to the control centers and provided an extensive range of options for broad customizations.

Gallery app has received an overhaul which simplifies preview and keeps your pictures and media organized better than iOS 17. There are some new changes made to other system applications to improve the user experience.

However, a major highlight of the software is its generative AI capabilities. That includes new writing tools with AI capability that help you write better text content or improve an existing line, paragraph, or page of text.

You can generate images to share with your friends and family. Unfortunately, these AI functions will only be available for two iPhones and other Apple devices with recent chipsets.

Specifically, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the only devices that run generative AI. Interestingly, Apple will seed the features with the iOS 18.1 software update, which is also getting close to the final phase of development.
