Tesla is now rolling out FSD version 12.5.1.4 for car users and is rumored to add previous hardware support for all users. This version is part of the 2024.26.15 software update released today but its initial rollout may be limited for employees.

There is no information available about the new changes that are part of this new software but it’s expected that the company has made it compatible with HW3. Late last month, Tesla released 12.5.1 software for hardware 4 devices. This has led to questions from the customers of these cars.

At that time, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said the company was working behind the scenes to make it compatible with the new Full Self Driving (FSD) version.

He wrote that the HW3 development is taking a substantial time to optimize the code for FSD 12.5. Importantly, the company validating hardware compatibility to provide a better experience.

The time is attributed to a separate development other than the HW4 cars. Musk said that the rollout may happen around August 10 but the the deadline is already missed.

With the FSD 12.5.1.4 release, we expect the company to have this capability on board for HW3 vehicles. However, we’ll have to wait until the software reaches public users and confirms a few more things about the feature enhancements.

FSD 12.5.1 is a major software update as it will expand software operations to a new level. It will combine city and highway software stacks to provide efficiency and correct behavior while transitioning between the two traffics.

There will be new upgrades for the driver monitoring system that will allow you to wear sunglasses while the FSD is engaged.

Still, these new changes are pending for an upcoming software release, which may happen soon. Prior to these features, the company may want to get a parity between HW3 and HW4 and prepare them for better development.
