Polestar 3 starts US production in Carolina
Swedish car maker Polestar has started manufacturing in the US, and the Polestar 3 is the first model under the production pipeline.
The company is producing this electric vehicle (EV) at its Ridgeville facility in South Carolina. It’s the first time Polestar has started local production of any of its products.
Last month, Polestar achieved a major milestone as it delivered the first batch of Polestar 3 on home ground and held a ceremony to mark this event.
Polestar 3 comes in three variants including long-range single motor, long-range dual motor, and long-range dual motor with performance pack. It has a number of options in the color segment.
“Manufacturing Polestar 3 in the USA is a crucial step for us. Now we offer customers in America an electric SUV that is built in America” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
The company says that setting up production in Ridgeville was not a small task as it has been planning and building the plant with its required assembly line. Interestingly, the plant is co-developed by Volvo, one of the largest stakeholders in the company.
The new model is built on electric tech also used on the Volvo EX90. So, each Polestar 3 will rollout of the assembly line with the same platform.
This new decision will help the Swedish EV maker to expand in and out of the US. By producing vehicles in the US and China, Polestar can also export new models to North America, Europe, and Asia. It will also help to reduce the cost of transport in their regions.
Furthermore, the Ridgeville plant will facilitate in fulfilling demand in Europe.
