xAI has announced two new models Grok 2 and Grok 2 mini for X users and put them in beta testing starting today.

This is a major upgrade over the previously released Grok 1.5 and brings more power to these two models in replies and other capabilities. Grok 2 comes as a frontier model with improved chat, coding, and reasoning. On the other hand, the mini stands as a small but capable sibling.

The company is testing the Grok 2’s beta version on the LMSYS leaderboard under the name “sus-column-r”. The AI firm said that its new model has outperformed Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4 Turbo on the benchmark in terms of its overall Elo score.

LMSYS chatbot arena is a popular competitive language model benchmark. It is designed to compare the capabilities of different LLMs in real time based on user interactions, data collection preferences for valuable datasets, and more.

With this new release, the company has introduced a new user interface for X Premium and Premium+ users. You will see numerous new changes from mode selection and the prompt bar to the bottom area.

The Grok 2 beta is available for premium users on web and mobile platforms. Grok 2 unleashes new advanced capabilities for text and vision comprehension and improves real-time information fetched from the social media platform.

“Grok-2 mini is our small but capable model with a balance between speed and answer quality. Compared to its predecessor, Grok-2 is more intuitive, steerable, and versatile across a wide range of tasks, whether you’re seeking answers, collaborating on writing, or solving coding tasks.” wrote xAI.
